The Elephant Hub runs its own in-house surf school out of Kabalana and Ahangama, and works with partner surf coaches and surf schools in Hiriketiya and Weligama for levels and conditions our home breaks don't cover. Wherever you're starting from, we can point you to the right wave.

Our own level scale, matched to the actual breaks around Ahangama, Weligama, and Hiriketiya.
- Level 0 — First wave (Kabalana Beach & Weligama)
- Complete beginners. Sandy-bottom, gentle whitewash — no reef, no experience needed.
- Level 1 — Learning to link turns (Marshmellow)
- Soft, forgiving shoulders once you're comfortable standing up and riding straight.
- Level 2 — Building confidence (Sticks & Marshmellow)
- A step up in wave size and shape as you start turning with more control.
- Level 3 — Intermediate reef breaks (Rams & Sticks)
- Real reef breaks with more push — best worked with a guide who knows the tide.
- Level 4 — Advanced (Plantation & Lazy Left/Right)
- Faster, more powerful waves for surfers who can already read a lineup.
- Level 5 — The Butchers (The Rock, Kabalana)
- Expert-only. Heavy, unforgiving, locals-and-pros territory — respect it.
- Lessons run twice daily — check the board at reception for the current schedule
- Boards, rash guards, and reef booties included in every lesson
- Small group sizes — real coaching, not a crowd on a beach
- Guests get priority booking; walk-ins welcome based on availability
