Where can I do yoga in Weligama?
Weligama has a well-established yoga scene that grew alongside its beginner surf bay. The Elephant Hub's own yoga and wellness deck is about twelve minutes away in Ahangama, on Kabalana Rd, and is easy to reach by tuk-tuk from anywhere in Weligama. Does The Elephant Hub have a wellness area?
Yes — the entire back garden is a wellness zone. It holds an open-air yoga and wellness deck under the palms, shaded and planted, deliberately set away from the bar and the club area so it stays quiet even during evening events. It looks out toward the Kabalana break and is used for sunrise flows, Sunday recovery sessions, and simply as somewhere calm to sit after a surf.
Is there good Wi-Fi for remote work?
Yes — 100Mbps fiber throughout the property, plus a dedicated co-working lounge with backup power.
Do you have quiet hours?
The dorms enforce quiet hours from 11pm–8am. The party crowd has the club area to themselves further from the sleeping quarters.
Can beginners learn to surf here?
Absolutely. Our surf school runs daily lessons for total beginners through intermediate riders, boards and guiding included.
How do I get from Colombo Airport to the hostel?
We arrange direct airport transfers — just message us on WhatsApp with your flight details and we'll handle the rest.

What is there to do in Weligama, Sri Lanka?
Weligama is about 10 minutes from The Elephant Hub and is Sri Lanka's best-known beginner surf bay, with a laid-back beach, coworking cafés, and the famous stilt fishermen just along the coast. We run regular trips there for guests who want Weligama's easy waves alongside Ahangama's more advanced reef breaks right outside the hostel.
What are the best things to do on Sri Lanka's south coast?
Beyond surfing in Ahangama and Weligama, the top day trips are whale watching in Mirissa, walking the ramparts of Galle Fort, hiking to hidden waterfalls, and visiting inland tea plantations. The Elephant Hub runs tuk-tuk safaris and can help put together any of these trips from the hostel.

Do you help travelers who aren't staying at the hostel?

How much does it cost to stay at The Elephant Hostel?
Dorm beds start at around LKR 3,900 per bed per night and private ensuite rooms at around LKR 4,700 per room per night, taxes included. Prices move with the season and with how far ahead you book, so the live rate for your dates is always the one on our Hostelworld page.

Check-in runs from 02:00 to 23:00 and check-out is until 12:00 noon. If you are coming from Colombo on a late flight, message us on WhatsApp +94 78 300 4496 before you travel and we will make sure someone is expecting you and your bed is held.
Do you have female-only dorms?
Yes. There is a 2-bed female dorm alongside 2- and 3-bed male dorms and private ensuite rooms. Because the female dorm is a small room rather than a large mixed hall, it stays quiet even on party nights, and the club area is deliberately set away from the sleeping quarters.
Is there a swimming pool?
Yes — there is a pool in the middle of the property with seating around it, and it is where most of the daytime and early-evening social life happens. It is free for all guests, and the bar serves poolside.
When is the best time to surf in Ahangama?
The south coast season runs roughly November to April, when the monsoon sits on the other side of the island and Kabalana, Ahangama and Weligama get their cleanest and most consistent conditions. May to October still surfs, it is simply less reliable and often bigger, which is when many surfers cross to the east coast. Kabalana works year-round and our surf school runs daily lessons in every season.
Should I stay in Ahangama or Weligama?
Weligama is the easier beginner bay: a long sandy beach, forgiving whitewater and the busiest strip of surf schools on the coast. Ahangama is quieter and greener, and it is closer to the better waves once you are standing up, Kabalana included. The Elephant Hostel sits between the two on Kabalana Rd, about twelve minutes from Weligama by tuk-tuk, so you can learn in Weligama and progress in Ahangama without moving where you sleep.
